Free Collection Download Update

Wow! I sure hope I never have to switch email systems again! Here I thought I was being a good guy and offering you a free collection for moving over with me but it has turned into a nightmare!

If you are totally frustrated with this whole thing or trying to get the free Candlewick Medallions embroidery design collection, please take a deep breath. I will make sure you get the designs if you ask nicely (read further to find out how).

I know this conversion process has been trying for many of you. Switching email systems is a hassle for both you and me. You because I need to get you to sign up all over again and there's a chance you won't. For me because it means a whole lot of work!

Some of you were quite frustrated and challenged by this process. Frustration I can understand; it's the handful of really rude people that take the joy away, or maybe you were just have a really bad day and this was the straw that broke the camel's back.

If you don't sign up for the newsletter, you'll need to remember to check back here frequently if you don't want to miss out on any goodies. All freebies have been moved to the shop (effective September 2010). Starting this year, new freebies will only be available for a limited time and then go to full price.

An Update for Previous Subscribers

Monday (1/02/2011) was an interesting day shall we say! I learned a lot that day, especially about patience. Some of you have it and some of you definitely don't and it certainly tried mine.

I personally answered 264 emails that day (I think my typing speed also increased!). If I somehow missed yours and you're still frustrated, please let me know. It was not my intention to send you over the edge!

In the onslaught, I was accused of spam, scam, viruses, and other nastiness. One person didn't like the collection and wanted to exchange it for something else.

Most of you seemed persistent and were grateful when you finally worked it out. And several of you were very helpful tracking how you finally did make it work.

I do want to thank all of you for trying. There have been close to 1000 downloads for this collection at this point and people are still downloading. A third of you have made it to the new email system. Hurray!

If you were able to get the items into your cart but not able to download them, try downloading them again. It appears the system was just timing out (which, of course, my hosting company denies any fault!).

Believe me, I never imagined it would be this hard since daily people are downloading the freebies from the shop.

If you haven't successfully downloaded the Candlewick Medallions, please read on, the rest of this message is for you!

Downloading Woes

In between corresponding with you, I was scouring the forums at Zen Cart and on the phone with various tech support folks to find the answer. Some could duplicate the same problems you were reporting and others could not.

We finally decided that the trigger point seemed to be having the sign up form with the product. Although it made for less hopping around the site, it seemed to sometimes take you to a new page when it shouldn't.

So now the form has been replaced with a link to another one that does work (actually the same form but in the blog area instead of the cart). After I did that, the complaints calmed down considerably--or maybe you all just went to bed!

Browser issues

Make sure you're using a current and updated browser. IE and AOL users are more likely to run into problems. Try clearing your cache or browsing historu.

Coupon Issues

I can't do a mass reset on the coupon code if yours has expired. However, I've created a new one. Just change the "11" to "22" and you'll have a few more tries. If you don't know what the rest of the coupon code is, sign up for the newsletter and you'll get it emailed to you. The sign-up form can be accessed on any page of this site in the right hand sidebar.

Two Sign-ups Required!

There still seems to be confusion about signing up for the newsletter and creating an account in the shopping cart. These are two separate systems. You must do each. The good thing is that once you've set it up, you'll find other freebie designs in the shop that you can download.

When a new newsletter announces the next freebie, all you'll need to do is log in and get it! Those of you are are unsubscribing as soon as you take the freebie will not get these update notices.

The reason you have to sign up twice is that these are two separate systems and both send emails. One sends the newsletter and the other sends confirmations about your orders. Federal laws require that you personally sign up and agree to getting email. You can set up a shopping cart account here (bottom portion):

Because so many of you were panicked about not getting signed up in the new system or not getting the design collection in time (and I've been manually adding you myself as you've emailed me so you can get the confirmation email), I will import the rest of you who have not made it in a few days and you will get a "Please confirm" email. I really didn't want to take this approach because I know how many of you dislike being bombarded by email.

If you don't want to re-subscribe, then just delete the email. You're getting these emails because at one time you did sign up via a form on one of my sites.

Hitting delete is much easier than firing off a nasty message. This world already has enough bad energy circulating. (Also, if you accidentally get the please confirm message and you have re-subscribed, just delete it.)

When you confirm, you'll get a second email with the coupon code for the free design collection. I think you have up to 30 days before the confirmation link expires.

The coupon code will be good for at least that amount of time. If you don't sign up now, you can always come back and register in the future but you will have missed out on any freebies that have expired.

If you haven't gotten this coupon code--and I know some of you haven't--it's because you haven't clicked the confirm link in the first email. I cannot send to you until you do that!

Steps to Getting the Free Collection

If you're still confused, here are the basic steps:

  1. Click confirm in the email titled, "(YourFirstName), Confirm your subscription".
  2. Wait a few minutes for a second email titled "(YourFirstName), Thank you & Gift Link" with the coupon code.
  3. Click the link in the email to go directly to the page in the shopping cart where the collection is located.
  4. Click Add to Cart. All the available formats will be available after your "purchase."
  5. Continue shopping and click Checkout when you're ready.
  6. If this is the first time purchasing or downloading through this cart, you will need to create a customer profile. Click Register. Returning customers just enter your email and password to Log in.
  7. Keep clicking Checkout. At some point during the check out process, you will see a field called "Redemption Code." Enter your coupon code here. You won't see it applied until you go to the next screen.
  8. Once you've completed the order process, you can immediately download them or you can come back, log in to your account, and download them again later. You'll get an email about your order. Your order history is preserved. You have unlimited time to download the designs but there is a limit to how many times you can download them. It's something quite reasonable (like 10 or so).

All shopping cart systems are a little different and can feel confusing to navigate until you work with them for a while. It's really no different than going to a new grocery store for the first time and looking for a particular item.

You have to learn the lay of the land. This is a canned product and is used in thousands of sites on the internet.

Still Can't Make it Work?

I've tried to make sure that everyone who wrote and who was not able to download got the collections in formats they needed. Before you ask for that, please check the list of FAQs I'm most frequently answering by email:

If you still can't get it, you need to show me your email with the coupon code and your sign up confirmation from the shop. If you are getting "page not found," just try again.

This appears to be an intermittent issue and every one who has tried again eventually was able to download. I don't know what causes this but it seems to occur during peak download times.

Downloading is preferable for 2 reasons--you can download it multiple times and you can get it when you want it. I will only email you once. Also, I cannot email you any other free products.

Summary of Links

Once again, I'd like to apologize for this conversion hassle. I do hope you'll stick with me and enjoy the new collection.

2011 is going to be a great year with more information, more designs, more freebies, and more YouTube training video--all of which will be announced in future newsletters.
