Machine embroidery isn’t as simple as pressing the start button on your machine — I don’t have to tell you that! But with the right foundation of techniques, you can get the result you want, every time. Join me, returning Craftsy instructor Lindee Goodall, in my online Craftsy class, 20 Things Every Machine Embroiderer Should Know. I’ll set you up for success with new skills, tips and tricks that will help you approach every step of your embroidery with confidence!

During class, you’ll learn the right way to hoop designs and how to choose the best stabilizer, needles and thread for your projects. When we move on, I’ll show you measures you can take to avoid mistakes before they happen, and how to fix those that already have. Then, discover finishing techniques for a polished final product, pointers for picking the right fabric and why thinking like a digitizer can go a long way.

I’ll begin by talking about different hoop types, before I teach you the right and wrong way to hoop. I’ll also introduce you to handy hooping aids that may have never been on your radar.

Then, find out how to pick the right stabilizer on a case–by–case basis. You’ll discover when to use wash–away vs. tear–away, cut–away vs. organza and more! I’ll even share the contents of my own stabilizer stash, and talk about how I use each one.

Once you’re comfortable choosing stabilizer, we’ll make sure you have the tools for the job. You’ll learn how how to select the correct thread, and get an idea of which weight will deliver the best look. Plus, you’ll get my golden rule for needle selection, and I’ll lay out the right way to balance bobbin and embroidery thread.

Wondering how to avoid mistakes? They happen to beginners and experts alike! I’ll show you tricks you can use to avoid errors in the first place, and you’ll find out how to fix mistakes with tools and techniques every embroiderer needs.

When we move on, we’ll focus on an important truth of embroidery: your work’s not over until you cross the finish line. I’ll show you how to cross it with confidence, using the proper finishing techniques to achieve polished results. You’ll learn to cleanly and easily remove stabilizers, and see the correct way to lift and press.

Have you ever found yourself stuck when picking fabric? Fabric is the first and most important choice you’ll make in any project, and I’ll explain how it has a big impact in stabilizer selection and beyond. I’ll also give you tips on avoiding a design that’s too complicated, and point out some pitfalls that make projects harder than they have to be.

Being an embroiderer doesn’t mean you have to be a digitizer, but thinking like one can go a long way! Learn how Embrilliance software can help every embroiderer, as I customize a design in real time. When we’re done, you’ll be able to answer the most important question of all: Is this even suitable for embroidery?
