Step

“Step” as it relates to embroidery has two meanings:

  • The length of each stitch in a step stitch fill block or for step underlay stitches.
  • Method of filling an area where the stitches are divided into smaller increments of a predefined length.

Embroidery Tip

  • Don’t figure-8 rubber bands around thread spools to prevent thread raveling. The pressure can damage and soften the thread for several layers, causing thread breaks when the thread is used. Rubber bands can also tarnish some metallic threads.
