New Shopping Cart System FAQs
The last three weeks have been hectic, working on a brand new shopping cart system, which just went live today. The primary purposes of the new cart are:
- Provide an easier mechanism for downloading the free designs.
- Provide an unrestricted number of products to allow individual design downloads
- Provide the ability for an affiliate program
- Add more purchase options beyond PayPal
The old cart didn’t allow free products and more people were complaining about not being able to download via the emailed link. The old system was an off the shelf product and had limited flexibility, not to mention a monthly fee. Want to add more products? Then it will cost you more.
The new cart uses Zen Cart, which required considerably more set up time on my part but hopefully will grow more gracefully. Because it is an entirely new cart, if you created an account in the old system or added yourself as a member on this site, unfortunately you will have to do it all again. Note that the members portion of this site never got off the ground (yet, anyway) so it has been disabled until further notice.
The old cart will remain active until the end of September. If you need to access any of your products you have previously purchased, you can get them through your original invoice link until that time. Please don’t order from the old cart. I will move your history over to the new cart soon. Don’t worry about “losing” any of your downloads, we will take care of you!
So this post is to answer the questions I’ve been bombarded with:
I know I typed in my correct email address but it doesn’t recognize me!
That’s because this is a new system and you will need to create new account.
I can’t download the design.
1. Make sure before adding to your cart that you have selected a format. The available formats are listed as checkboxes. You are not limited to just one format. If you have Generations, check either the MNG or the GEN for a native format and if you like, a machine format (hus or pes, for example).
2. If you are getting a page not found error, this seems to be intermittent and sometimes I can reproduce it and sometimes I can’t. I have posted a question about it in the ZenCart forum and am looking for a solution.
I need .art format.
Only the Bernina software can create this format and I don’t have it. You are welcome to convert any file you download to .art but you will need appropriate Bernina software. If you don’t know what this is, ask your dealer.
I’m being charged for multiple formats.
Make sure you only add the product once. You can select multiple formats on designs.
Why don’t you offer all the formats?
Basically, because the the number of downloads don’t support the work involved or the space required to host them all. Besides, conversion software is easy to get these days and most programs–and even machines–will read most format. Personally, I’d like to just stick to PES and DST. PES supports all the sizes and real thread colors, DST is the most universal.
