Looping

Thread loops on the surface of the embroidery is generally caused by poor top tensions or other tension problems. Looping is also more likely to occur:

  • With polyester thread than rayon
  • In fills and running stitches with longer stitches
  • In areas of excessive density
  • On thicker fabrics like leather and belt webbing

Note: If you increase the size of a design without a stitch processor, the stitch length will increase and so will the potential for looping. Some machines control tensions much better than others.

Embroidery Tip

  • Water soluble toppings are temporary and are not a permanent solution to loop retention on textured fabrics like terry cloth towels.
