June 2010 Letter from Lindee

Last month’s newsletter got emailed but I never got the web version posted, so we’ll just move on to June! Also, it is much easier to post the newsletter here than working out all the html stuff in the email program.

Due to some whacko nut job harassing me about sending email, a very abbreviated email newsletter will be sent shortly. I know people are busy and those of you who signed up want to know when the newest free design is posted.

In the meantime, please pass the word that the new free design is up! Thanks!

I can’t believe we’re approaching the halfway mark of June already! I’ve really been working overtime to catch up since the seminar events over a month ago. I have been buried in researching and writing the next unit in the Learn to Digitize course.

Website Enhancements

It seems in the switch over to a new email manager, I managed to corrupt some of the forms on the site. These have all now been corrected so if you tried to download some of the freebies and were getting an error, please try again. Also, when filling in the forms, make sure your email address is correct. I cleaned up quite a few incorrect emails so if you got the newsletter but didn’t get emails for any of the designs you registered for, that could be the reason.

The new email system is supposed to prevent you from having to opt-in to multiple lists every time you download a new goodie. It seems to be working most of the time…

The member’s area is still not up yet. I really need to just set aside about 2 weeks to figure it out and there always seems to be more important things to do. If I could only clone myself.

New Website!

In order to better explain the Learn to Digitize training series, a new website has been created just for it, check it out here: http://LearnGenerations.com. Yes, its true, some competitors don’t want you to know about this course and may try to convert you to a lesser product. Read this before you change to a lower priced product!

Unit 4: Stitch Types & Attributes

As I write this, Learn to Digitize Unit 4: Stitch Types & Attributes is in Australia for final proofing and I’m working on the videos to go with it. I expect this unit to begin shipping next week and if you have pre-ordered the full set, yours will be going out as soon as they are ready. You can order the latest installment in the 8-unit series here.

Free Shipping on Learn to Digitize!

The Learn to Digitize Training Series is CD-based (Unit 2 is on DVD) because the files are simply too large for easy downloading. Free shipping has now been instituted on product shipped within the US. If you live outside the US, and shipping exceeds the standard US amounts, shipping will be applied. If you live in Australia or surrounding areas, all Lindee G products are stocked and available from Echidna; please order from them.

Products ordered directly from us normally ship the same or next day. Products ordered through third parties for drop shipping ship when product payment is received.

Now Accepting Orders on the Full Course!

Now that I’m half-way through and I can see a light at the end of the tunnel, the full course has been added to the shopping cart. Units are getting easier to write but it still takes a huge amount of research and experimentation to interpret the manual into what the program really does.

Since the course is still being written, each unit is priced at $59.95, which will go up when the course is completed (contrast that with the fact I could easily produce a design collection in a long weekend that sells for the same price).

It takes me approximately two solid months to research and write a unit (that means dedicated to the project and not traveling or other work). So far, the first 3 units together comprise just about 600 pages and 3 hours of videos. The fourth unit is 186 pages and also contains quite a bit of video. Each unit is loaded with screen captures illustrating concepts and techniques.

If you know you’re ready to just do it, order the full course now. Get all 8 units (remaining units will automatically ship as completed) plus Anatomy of a Design for $399! The current price for all 8 units individually is $479.60. But I plan to increase the price of each unit from $59.95 to $79.95 once the final unit is complete, which will make the course a total of $639.60. Add in Anatomy of a Design and that’s another $37.

The final four units will be shipped to you as they are completed. I have mountains of notes for the last four and really hope to meet my target completion date.

Summer Fun Sale!

If you haven’t checked out Terry’s tote made with the Summer Fun designs, here’s a photo:

To commemorate the beginning of summer here in the northern hemisphere (sorry, my Aussie friends!), this collection is on sale through June 30 2010 and is ready for instant download. Be sure to get the appropriate version. If you own Generations, you’ll definitely want the Building Block version. If you don’t have this software, be sure to get the multi-format version. This collection includes the following 20 designs. Regular price is $39.95 (that works out to less than $2 per design!) and at 25% off, you’re saving $9.99.

June Free Design

Because of the form glitch, last month’s design is still available but it will come down soon. This month’s design is now posted and once you complete the form, you’ll be emailed a link, which is direct download of the design in all formats (it won’t take you to page).
For you Generations users, it’s in native GEN format and of course it has also been exported in the popular machine formats as well. This design fits a a 4×4 hoop.

Free Monthly Digitizing Webinar

The free digitizing lab webinars are continuing throughout the summer with once a month sessions on the second Thursday of each month at 7pm Pacific Daylight Time. These webinars are hosted by embroidery.com with veteran digitizers James Lyman and myself. We also often have Leanne Church, from Echidna in Australia with us. Each session we tackle topics of interest, most of which have been submitted by viewers. Techniques are demonstrated live in Generations software and many are transferable to other programs. You do not have to own Generations to attend. Come lurk or participate as you wish. Webinars are recorded and can be watched online when posted. To sign up, go to: GenWebinars.

Please don’t share the free designs but you can share the links and this newsletter. Feel free to post the link to the free design in your favorite chat goups.

Until next time – happy embroidering and may the stitch be with you!

Embroidery Tip

  • A better strategy for improving fabric coverage in a design is to increase the underlay rather than increase the density. If you can’t modify the design, use a color block topping.

Mission

To inspire and nurture personal creativity and productivity by connecting embroiderers and digitizers with innovative, high-quality products and information that significantly elevate their enjoyment and experience while maximizing the use of technology. In other words, more toys and more fun!
