FAQs About Webinars

I frequently teach classes via the internet through embroidery.com’s E-Classes, which are webinars—short for seminar on the web. Sometimes to announce a particularly interesting or free webinar, you may get an email from me at embroidery.com. These are answers to questions and comments I frequently receive after such an email. Because of the volume of email that goes out, I sometimes can’t answer every response individually–especially if I’m traveling and doing live events.

Most of the questions I get are answered in the original email announcement–either in the actual body copy or via links in the email. So why wait on me? Here’s how to get the answers immediately.

When is the class?

The dates are usually announced in the email but the times aren’t because of time zone issues. Indeed, if you live on the other side of the world from us, the dates may not even be correct! There is always a link in the email to direct you to the website where you can check the times.

I can’t come to Utah to take your class!

You don’t need to. Anywhere you have an internet connection is where your seat for the class is. On-line classes are perfect if you want to conserve gas, can’t leave the house for some reason, or want to take a class with someone who is unlikely to show up near you.

Where do I go for the class?

First of all, you need to go to the link in the email and register for the class. Once you’ve done that, you’ll get an email with the link for the webinar. If you’ve never taken a webinar before or you aren’t sure how to set up your computer to hear the audio, please attend the free newbies class, The E-Class Experience. You can watch a recorded version at any time. Live sessions are often provided immediately before an especially well-attended class.

If you don’t already have an account with embroidery.com you will need to set one up.

How much does it cost?

Membership at embroidery, com is completely free. Some classes are free to all members while other classes are only free to E-Club members. Find out more about the benefits of E-Club and how to get one month free.

Some classes charge a fee, which is often discounted for E-Club members. After all, the instructor has to prepare for the class and teach the class. Embroidery.com has to pay moderators to run the class and pay for the service that hosts the class. They also have to pay to have the recorded version made and uploaded. Don’t you like to get paid for the work you do?

What if I can’t attend at the webinar time?

No problem. By registering for the class you get a chance to take any other live session of that class in the next 30 days and get access to the recorded version, which you can watch as often as desired for 60 days. You may also get other freebies and discounts associated with the class. By the way, I rarely teach a class exactly the same way and on unstructured classes like Anatomy of a Design: The Missing Piece, there is a lot of variety so do check out other sessions either live or recorded. Occasionally, there are “technical difficulties” that can throw a minor monkey wrench into a session. Ahh, the joys of the internet! Amazing how what we didn’t have a few years ago has somehow become a basic staple of life!

I can’t attend this one, will you please let me know when the next one will be held?

Thank you for your interest but to be sure you don’t miss a session, you may want to subscribe to the RSS feed of this website or make a habit of checking the class schedule at embroidery.com. I can’t always guarantee that an announcement will always go out about an E-Class you are particularly interested in and future ones may not have been scheduled when you ask.

When should I log on to take the E-Class?

I recommend logging on to GoToWebinar via the link in your email 5-10 minutes before a session starts. This will give you adequate time to get connected and you won’t miss a thing,

How long will the webinar last?

Most sessions are scheduled for an hour for the actual class. Often, the session will stay live a while longer to allow for a Q&A period if needed. Q&A is often not recorded and some really good stuff comes up in this part so you may want to plan ahead for a little extra time at the end.

Please change my email address.

Besides the fact that I don’t have access to your account to do this, most companies use an automated mailing program to handle the volumes of email that are sent out. Yes, someone personally wrote the actual content of the email message, but a program manages sending that message out to potentially tens or hundreds of thousands of people. You can change your address anytime you need to by clicking on the link at the end of the message that says: “If you wish, you may update your subscriptions. You can use this link to change your name, change your email, and various other details.

Quit sending me these messages!

You are receiving  these messages because you are subscribed through embroidery.com not because I personally have somehow gotten your email address. If you no longer want ANY messages from embroidery.com, you can change your settings by clicking on the link at the end of the message that says: “If you wish, you may update your subscriptions.” But be forewarned, you will not get any notifications about the great sales either. Personally, I find it easier just to delete the occasional messages I’m not interested in.

Embroidery Tip

  • A dull needle will not pick up the bobbin thread correctly, resulting in looping.
